PRIA.http://192.9.200.215:4000/handle/123456789/491The Kayahna Area Tribal Council, formed in 1977 by remote Indigenous communities in Ontario, seeks economic self-sufficiency and cultural preservation. A women's employment survey revealed deep neglect of their training and job needs. In response, a participatory research project led by local women aims to gather data, raise awareness, and plan community-driven development. This initiative empowers women to shape their own economic and social futures.The purpose of this paper is to present some of the background and current status of a women's participatory research project now in progress in northern Ontario, Canada. This research project has been initiated by the Kayahna Area Tribal Council. We would like to draw upon the experience of the conference participants in Lubljana in order to design our project in as effective a way as possible.
