This case study explores a SAP-India funded project aimed at community development through sericulture and horticulture. The project expanded from 10 to 21 villages due to extended duration and additional funds. It highlights practical issues in monitoring, gender empowerment, and sustainability. The exercise helps understand real-time deviations, stakeholder roles, and impact evaluation.
Let us take a given project proposal for a practical exercise with a view to understanding the issues involved in interim and final monitoring. The proposal selected for the exercise has been funded by SAP-India; monitoring reports have also been prepared by SAP-India staff. The first monitoring visit was undertaken seven months after the the project actually underway. The final monitoring visit is reported to have taken place after two and half years of the project implementation. The analysis attempted herein has been undertaken strictly for training and is not meant to be any critical comment. Any critical comment would require visits to the field, discussions with project beneficiaries, and, discussions with the NGO partner staff.
