| dc.description | This paper outlines Indonesia’s socio-economic and political challenges during the 1980s, highlighting the limited role of grassroots participation in national development. It stresses the shared responsibility of NGOs and government, and documents grassroots struggles, particularly of peasants and petty traders. The discussion reflects the dominance of elites, structural inequalities, foreign dependencies, and the exploitative effects of agricultural modernization. | dc.description.abstract | The responsibility for developing the country is not only on the Government shoulder, but also on our non-Government offices' (NGO's) shoulder. The developing itself is not easy because it relates with many factors, such as people, regulations, natural resources as well as human resources. And the main problem is how to develop the country without victimizing the people and taking part of the community participation in decision-making. This paper addresses to give the picture of the national realities and what are the responses of 'Forum on Peace and Developing Ethics Studies' as the coordinator of the NGO's linkage in Java on developing the country. It explains what and how are the NGO's in this linkage working with the grassroot people. | |
