Abstract
This paper discusses the community-based participatory research conducted during the KANITA workshop held in Malaysia in 1980, focusing on the role of community involvement in preschool education. The study highlights gender dynamics, the role of parents and children in early education, and the impact of environmental factors on child development. The research examines the establishment of a preschool program, its challenges, and the community's response to educational initiatives aimed at children, particularly within rural village settings.

This document is a report on the findings and discussions from the KANITA workshop on community participation in early childhood education held at Universiti Sains Malaysia in March 1980. The workshop explored the social dynamics of childrearing and education in rural Malaysian villages, focusing on the involvement of both men and women in child development, and the role of communal support in education and health. The report also examines the challenges faced in establishing preschool centers (TADIKA) and the importance of addressing gender roles and community needs in the educational development of children.
