Abstract
This report explores the methodologies employed by the VPC research group to study the complex dynamics of violence, marginalization, and participatory social action across diverse contexts. The study spans four countries—Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico, and Nigeria—highlighting the unique socio-political and cultural challenges in each region. Issues such as human rights, ethnic and religious conflicts, resource control, and the impact of violence on communities are analyzed. Employing a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study focuses on fostering participatory citizenship, addressing the intransigence of violence, and promoting peaceful social transformation through actionable insights.
Description
This research project examines participatory approaches in violent contexts, emphasizing the interplay of social action, citizenship, and marginalization. Using tools like PRA/PLA, FGDs, and participatory video, the project investigates how communities navigate and address violence, resource control, and ethnic and religious challenges. A key focus is on building capacities for peaceful transformation and understanding the implications of double lives in exit groups. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners working in complex, violence-prone environments.
