Abstract

The Research Unit on Women's Studies has been actively involved in research and action programmes with rural women for some time and now we wish to expand our methods and focus. By bringing together resource persons with varied related experience we attempt to provide a platform to share insights and generate new ideas. We hoped that out of this workshop a general methodology or scheme of possible techniques would emerge to serve as guidelines in launching a participatory research and development programme for women in villages,

Description

The workshop focused on participatory research methods for engaging rural women in health and hygiene education. A hypothetical project on water drainage and garbage disposal in villages was used to explore strategies for community involvement. Techniques like the "Round Robin" method were discussed to gather and prioritize health concerns. The importance of involving women in creating teaching materials and encouraging introspection was emphasized. The workshop highlighted the role of local narratives in fostering discussion and reflection on health practices.
