Rural Camps: Current Assessment and Future Issues

Abstract

This report assesses the current status and identifies future challenges related to rural camps organized by the National Labour Institute, particularly focusing on the empowerment of the rural poor in Ratlam, Bilaspur, and Udaipur. It highlights the awareness and articulation of legal rights among participants, their successes in securing wages and relief from bonded labor, and the role of organization-building in advocating for their rights. Additionally, it discusses the importance of organized action and local official support in achieving these outcomes, as well as the resistance faced due to tactical and strategic challenges. The report concludes by examining ongoing issues and the need for mechanisms to facilitate information flow to grassroots organizers.
