Abstract
The research method used in Greenwich to carry out a survey on the services for the mentally handicapped was specifically aimed at enhancing the feasibility of implementation. A deliberate and consistent effort was made to bring the individual services and the parents of the mentally handicapped together to make a realistic assessment of their total need, to see how far the available resources could meet such needs and what should be done in the future.
Description
Greenwich Report summarizes findings from a participatory research survey on services for the mentally handicapped in the London Borough of Greenwich. It emphasizes collaboration between policymakers, service providers, researchers, and service users to improve care. Most recommendations were accepted and steps are underway for implementation, including advocacy for government support. The full report, developed collaboratively, will be published with the support of a national charity.
