Abstract

Participatory research is defined as research which is based on the democratic interaction between the researchers and those among whom the research is conducted. This democratic interaction is premised on the political participation of the exploited and oppressed classes in society in conducting research on the causes of their exploitation with a view towards overcoming this exploitation. Participatory research thus represents the general struggle to break down the social division between mental and manual labour and is an important tool for popular education.

Description

Participatory research is a democratic process where researchers and the oppressed collaborate to study and overcome exploitation. It aims to bridge the gap between mental and manual labour and serves as a tool for popular education. Popular education draws from the lived experiences and struggles of peasants and workers. This concept of research is deeply political, rooted in ongoing anti-imperialist movements.
