With regard to educational policies, this work finds its place in the debate and interventions of cultural decentralization; which has largely been spreading in Italy since the Seventies: from this point of view the Region, through its legislative action, and the Municipalities, through their educational activities, are playing the leading role. It discusses four major issues in participatory research: the epistemological basis, the role of popular knowledge, the researcher’s role, and the validation of participatory knowledge. The paper argues that participatory research can be best understood through the lens of critical theory, using it as a method for critiquing social domination. The North Bonneville project demonstrates the potential for participatory research to foster political struggle, democratic organization, and critical learning.Item Perspectives of Poor Women and Men: Lessons for Development Policy-Making and Practice - Some Results from Bangladesh(UNDP Bangladesh, 1996) Mukherjee, NeelaThis paper examines the perspectives of poor women and men on poverty and its alleviation, based on two studies conducted in Bangladesh.
