    Introducing Participatory Sociology
    (0000) Das, Biswajit
There are many reasons why Participatory Sociology has been introduced as an integral part of the Sociology Curriculum at Jamia. It is proper to say that the Pedagogic spirit and the substantive thrust behind Participatory Sociology provide Jamia's Sociology Curriculum its distinctive quality. We will recall here the adventures in educational ideas and their practices which have gone into the establishment of Jamia. Nothing can capture the spirit of Jamia as do some of the verses that Dr. Zakir Hussain and his colleagues frequently quoted drawing their conviction and inspiration.

This work explores the rationale and spirit behind the introduction of Participatory Sociology in Jamia's curriculum, emphasizing its distinctive pedagogical quality. It advocates moving away from linear reductionism towards inclusive, holistic, and pluralistic thinking. The text reflects on participatory learning approaches and their potential to transform traditional academic practices, reinforcing the need for creative, open, and egalitarian environments. Inspired by Rumi's verses, it provides a thoughtful commentary on the evolving landscape of sociology as a transformative and participatory discipline.
